Raspberry

EDIT Again: this is again a different frame, not 2309 versus 2314 (which is gone now) This is image 2348...and maybe shot with a tripod or not...but the guaranteed tripod shots were no better than the hand held...this is square of Chocolate that maybe worked well because I shot it, said to heck with this experiment and proceeded to eat more, looked and said, Hey...maybe I don't need all the Ghirardelli printing on the face of the chocolate...I also toned down the Yellow Channel a little

other sizes: small medium large original auto

No, I forgot, or didn't think it that important...next time I will remember. Thanks.

However, I did use mirror lock up which is finally pretty convenient in the 6D.

To me this is better because there is less motion blur than in the previous one. Did you remember to turn off the IS feature of your lens? It makes a difference. Paul

Yes - very sharp in front, with a good DOF.

You must be a very vicious person, Traveller, to combine these three «Joys» into one single picture... ;-)) db.

There is an easy fix for the F8-11, move your focus point forward (tripod helpful) since the focus is 1/3 forward, 2/3rds backward. Then only the front line will be in focus and if needed add some blur. Paul

I fear that f 8or 11, I am going to have DOF all the way across this 1 and 1/2 inch square....I thought that even at 5.6 it was pretty much gone...but Challenges are for testing out old ideas and things...so I will give it another go. Traveller

How will the tripod help you ask, it will kill the motion blur I see. It also will allow for F8 or F11 (still small DOF) and hold the camera still during the shoot. Paul

You have given me an idea. My wife made some cookies yesterday - maybe I should try your technique, and eat the subject after the shoot as you do. It might be a good excuse to eat a few.

I get to eat the candy every time I shoot, so I guess I can try again with the tripod....but remember, one of the goals of this shot and composition is to have a very narrow DOF. I'm not quite sure how the tripod will help in these regards. The yellow cast seems more germaine, but shooting in the actual daylight might be the key....(do I eat all my chocolate at night?....lol)Traveller

Personally I believe the tripod will help but of course I use one all the time for these kind of shots. I'm also of the thinking you should tweak the white balance to move away from the yellowish background color. Paul

Yes, this is sharper on the front edges and material.
Well done, esp for 1/20 sec.

Well, 2309 is better than 2314 and I am not sure that even a tripod would help any more. This is about as good that this subject can be done, I think.

In conclusion, this is from last night, same technique....and acceptable, I guess. I dodged the filling, but I am still not sure you can taste the raspberry. I may try again later with a tripod and different lens...but now back to work.

Thanks Jim, but I think this is a case of pride doth go before the fall.

It was 3am, I was tired, this was shot in an awkward crouch....1/20 sec, f4, iso 200. The tripod was right by my side, but I was too lazy to set it up....normally I can get away with such foolery with good results....I won't blame the lens yet....I'll try again with a tripod....and I was as close to the chocolate as I could be...at refusing to focus range then back up an inch hand held...I see potential problems in this technique....lol

We will see...I got plenty more candy!

Best Wishes, Traveller

Another thought - one of my lenses doesn't give me sharp focus at the closest distance it says it should - so I tend to back off a bit, then crop a little more.

I think it looks ok. Where was your point of focus?
Where do you want it?
The broken edge lower right looks the sharpest.
And what were your shooting parameters?
