Oop, when I said "last year" it was more like in June. I forgot this event happens twice a year. Last year I missed it, which I think only happened once in that year. I could've managed this better. Someone suggested emailing editors before shooting the event, just telling, not asking, them I'd be sending some images over.
I like the idea of "press access" and "freelancer". I have submitted some things in the past to a local rag, but never thought of using it that way. Good idea. Hmm - where do I want to try this?
Thank you for everyone's kind comments. No reason to make me blush and all but I appreciate them :) You are all talented in your own right. So back to the music...
I had photographed the Jazz Age Lawn Party last year for the fist time, paid the late entrance fee but it was worth it. This year I applied for press access, even though I don't have those credentials. Showed them my captures from last year and put in "freelancer" and that I'm working on a personal project (which I am) and that if anything else I might submit to some local papers and fashion blogs (which I have) but haven't heard word from any yet. I didn't submit this shot to them as I decided to post it here instead. I'll wait another day or two, if I don't hear from them, I'll share more.
I was very much intrigued with the bandstand last year and getting to hang around the musicians was really fun. I had my Polaroid Land Camera and gave away shots as a thank you. So my presence was spread a little too thin than I'd hoped this time. It's a two day event and optimally I would've gone there again the following day but couldn't. So that's the short story ;)
Excellent framing, really...this is largely why you are so much better than I...you have the Eye....I'm trying to capture and convey information, which has its uses to be certain...but having The Eye...that is special.
