Yes, this is the Old Los Angeles Zoo....you can actually wander lion and bear enclosures that were once inhabited by beasts fifty yards back up the hill...in the distance is the Hollywood Hills as you correctly surmised.

Aw Griffith park that's why the background looks familiar. That's out by the zoo right?? Paul

Excellent capture of an outdoor performance - audience, performers, stage, and background trees; all perfect.

Last night I went to Griffith park to see Much Ado About Nothing....take a blanket, sit close to the stage, off to the right....take some bread and wine or whatever and....it really is fabulous....but understand it was 7pm to 10:30....the play seemed stronger after the intermission, but then I've seen this in London at Shakespeare's Globe theater, and New York....Still, from Scene 3, Act 2 through Act 4 this was maybe the finest adaptation I've seen of this play.

The first acts may have been better than I am saying....I wandered off to watch, hold a reflector for a fashion shoot back up the hill in the old lion cage, for a black publication.
We were too soon busted however for being too noisy, (not true), and I directed them to some other places they could shoot.

As I write about this, this irritates me because this is a very noisy production with significant audience participation...so it is noisy.

Haven't I posted here my glowing review of Romeo and Juliet put on earlier this year?

In any case I had a fine time....but realized that Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy is largely the same as Much Ado, a comedy....same themes of deception, love, betrayal, lust, scatological humor....

Shakespeare really was a genius in mining the human condition.

This is free to attend, but the two productions, R & J and Much Ado cost $400,000 to put on....this is full Actor's Equity Theater....with the attendant costs.

I hope to see As You Like it in Beverly Hills, put on by a different company, on Thursday night, and then Point Fermin, right on the ocean, to see The Tempest.

This seems to be my year for Shakespeare...damned if I know why....lol

Best Wishes, Traveller

So what play did you see at the theatre in the park?? Is that Hollywood Hills in the background? Paul
