Jim, if you're still around late Oct - early Nov, go to Crex Meadows.
It's near Grantsburg Wi. (about 80 miles from the twin cities)
There's normally around 10,000 cranes there at that time.
The temps have to start falling, maybe some ice skimming the ponds.
Every morning just before the sun comes up, they take off for the corn fields.
Every evening about an hour before sundown, they start to come back to roost for the night.
I took 1100 pictures between the evening and morning flights.
You'll get lots of opportunities to get flight shots.

Dave - I'm a bit like you, as I'm sure the difficulty of the shot plays some role in how I feel about one of my shots.
BTW, I also like the cranes better, partly for the same reason, as I haven't gotten them in flight yet as you did.

Thanks Trav. I like the sandhills much better than this.
This is typical for me though. The shots of mine that I think are slam dunks, aren't.
The ones I consider 2nd tier others like more.
I'm probably just letting the difficulty of getting the shot interfere with the actual quality of it.
Sandhill difficulty = 6, the doe and fawn = 2 (on a scale of 1-10)
Does anyone else do this, or is it just me.

This works for me...Sandhill Cranes, less so. Love the soft and then hard focus...nice treatment for a relatively old image! Traveller
