Not Your Typical Job

Necessary tools from my past when I worked on the kill floor at the Iowa Beef slaughter house in Emporia Kansas. As you can see from the condition of the blades they haven't gotten much attention from me in the past 37 years. I do use the steels from time to time so I keep both of them fairly well maintained.

How interesting...we all have such strange histories. I did some slaughtering on the farm as a child, but really an autumn minimal amount.

Speaking of this, I am defending a chicken plant...alas, as I noted in an email:

Lastly, this week I attempted to conduct a Trial in Spanish, Vietnamese, Cantonese and of course English all at once....but my Cantonese translator was disallowed on Wednesday by the Judge, though opposing counsel was good with it.

I was suicidal, but my brother was correct in insisting that this worked strongly to my benefit even though the Trial was continued to March.

^^^^
This is why I haven't been around much...not that it matters...sigh, you pick yourself up.

Best Wishes, Traveller

I put the knifes on my grinding wheel recently to try to bring back the rough edge. The boning knife on the right I don't think there is any hope for but (maybe some mild acid) if I really wanted to use the skinning knife on the left it wouldn't take much work to restore it back to her glory. They provided us with sandpaper and steel wool to keep them clean. If we didn't the USDA inspectors would red tag our gear and it couldn't be used until cleaned and reinspected. My mesh apron got red tagged once but the inspector was just messing with me for some entertainment. He actually was a nice guy. Paul

Good story, and even without the story it is a good documentary photo - nicely composed and well lit. The B&W also works quite well here. The blade on the right looks a bit pitted, though the edge looks good.
