Staircase, 1st Place

Brussels, Belgium

The "Atomium" was the architectural icon
of the World Expo 1958 in Brussels.

Either the steadiness of my hand
is remarkable indeed (for my age)
or Canon's IS does a *really* good job!
(Your choice. ;-))

No, the 24-105mm will not be part of the kit, Techo: Canon provided me once (a few years ago) one to test, and I found the barrrel distortion at 24mm absolutely unacceptable (which may be of less importance to someone in action or landscape photography but is utterly unsuitable for architecture, as the distortion is only partially correctable in PP). My 6D is coming with the new 24-70mm f4L USM IS and the 70-200m f4L USM IS (and a 1.4 extender for the latter). I think the two f4s will be perfectly fine for my genre of photography and—due to their smaller size and lighter weight—adequate for my travels. Of course, there could be a fast portrait lens somewhere down the road, and—who knows?—even the dream of a TS-E 17mm may come true (if/when I'll be willing to «shell *that* money out» for a lens... ;-)) Thank you, Techo, for your interest! ~ db.

Maybe it's all the metal in the cylindrical form that reminds me of maritime.

Very exciting! Going full frame. Is the 24-105 part of the kit? I tried it for a while on the 7D and thought it perfect for full frame as a general walk around lens. No 2.8 though.

Thanks for your kind words, Techo: I'm glad you like the image (though I'm not entirely sure how to take your comment about the "Maritime look/feel" for a staircase in a building that stands well inland...). Anyway: I know that if there's someone knowing about the qualities of that lens, it's definitely you ;-)) I have, nevertheless, sold mine just a few days ago, as my 6D—and lenses—are on order and should arrive somewhen this very week! ~ db.

Hehe. Nice lens ;)

Great job with the shot. Nice exposure and composition. The staircase does have a Maritime look/feel to it.
