Preparing for the Ride

Fremont, WA

Applying body paint in preparation
for riding in the annual Solstice Parade.
She was joined by an estimated 600 other
body-painted men and women on bicycles,
roller blades, scooters, or simply on foot.
After they passed by the 10,000+ spectators
along the two mile parade route, the parade
ensembles began their trip. Parade rules: No
visible words or logos, no motors or live
animals (all floats were human-powered),
and no real weapons.

How great is this? I feel like I'm back in some Celtic/Druidic past...very nice and interesting....sometimes I forget how....interesting, there's that word again, people can be.

Best Wishes, Traveller

I would estimate that 10% of the painted parade participants had some type of underpants under the paint job. For the rest it was body paint only. Please note, however, that this group is, and has been for a decade, an unofficial and unsanctioned contributor to the Fremont Solstice Parade’s festivities. The official list of parade ensembles included several bands, a school bus (pulled along by human power alone, of course), a scorpion, a group of 100+ belly dancers, the Ice Queens (my personal favorites), a Chinese Dragon made entirely of discarded plastic bottles (a statement about the environment, I infer), a 15 foot long spider carried from underneath by kids holding onto one leg each, a number of stilt walkers, a lone walker wearing a hat for which the brim was 10 feet across, and the “green hat” group who collected donations from the audience to help offset the cost of the parade.

You forgot to mention..... clothing is optional! Or is that just a given? Paul
