I think you should crop it Gerald, to give the rest of us a chance.

No I am not serious it is a great image and should in no way be cropped. Steve

Meanwhile, I took a look at the cropped pic. Yes, that would be a no-go, terribly boring. Thanks to all for your interest.

Great image. Well seen, and captured well.

the support in behind you, gerald, so "don't touch that dial!" LOL (thumbs up to paul) shu
Canon Image Challenge06-Sep-2011 00:07
Don't touch that dial, this is perfect and clearly the top challenger at the moment. The image is about the lantern not the light being produced by the lantern. The reflected soft light is a side effect. REPEAT do not alter this entry! Paul

My belief, Shu, is that within a hundred feet of where any of us sleep at night, there must be over a thousand things that would fit the challenge topic. Some of them are bound to be interesting in and of themselves. Many others can be made interesting, by application of the photographer's skills. This is a very good example of the later category.

....and. gerald, i will vote heavily for this very appealing image! the lighting and texture support the lantern (10" box) in an artistic way! shu
Canon Image Challenge04-Sep-2011 13:38
i think the "lower part" is the appeal of this image. to cut it out, would ruiin your entry, imo. i think most of us understand that this qualifies w/o removal of the great reflection. to simply shoot a subject b/c it "fits in the box," is boring imo. shu

Charlie, of course, if you think it is not quite on topic, I can cut off the lower part. It is only the surface the lantern is standing on. -Gerald

There is more shown in the image than would fit in “the box,” but the principal subject itself would fit. You captured the topic perfectly, and did it with an elegant touch. Nicely done.
