Bangkok Skyline

Bangkok

Back on my travels. First stop Bangkok. Decided I didn't want to travel without my Canon so left the GH2 at home. Kind of crazy because the sole reason for buying the GH2 was for lighter weight travelling. But when it came time to leave, I just couldn't bring myself to leave the Canon.

Thanks for the comments Traveller and Sharon. I'm fairly convinced now I've made the right decision. The GH2 is a very capable camera, but I just didn't enjoy shooting with it the way I do with the 5D. The lack of optical viewfinder is certainly part of it, as is the latency. The shutter sounds clumsy (perhaps because it has to close before exposure) but most of all, too often the results just lack something, without it being obvious what it missing. I Haven't been able to put my finger on it. I tried discussing it in the m43 forum but far too many in there (who don't own one) just don't want to entertain a sensible discussion, and seem only to want to hear how wonderful it is. -Najinsky

Well, this is exactly why I shoot a Rebel....but regardless of model, nothing can replace a fully functioning DSLR....see the above image for proof. Yes they are heavy, yes they are a bother and more likely to be stolen even...but even with all these negatives...

...See the image above.

Case closed.

You captured the luminescent light beautifully. I am interested to hear that you ended up choosing the heavier camera to travel with. I have been debating getting a lighter camera, the GH2, for travel but I love my 50D and, like you, I might decide that I couldn't go without it. This shot seems a good reason to have the bigger camera with you. ~Sharon

Smart, smart move...and a lovely B&W image....it makes me wish I were there:>}}}

The fly is probably technically the superior image, but...it is so good, the fly is ugly to me...lol
