Thanks again to everyone for sharing their thoughts.
One thing I tried new here (for still life) was shooting at the widest point of view of the lens, as close as it would possibly let me. I did turn the sharp part of the knife down and thought the image was less appealing. I would though possibly have liked to have the whole knife in focus.

I love this "edgey" kind of shot - made a bit more so by the implied tilt of the table surface (what is it?) to the right (Cezanne-like). Maybe if the knife edge were turned politely down (away), it might not be so threatening.. but then I might not like it so much. Great light.

I can understand the comments about the knife, but for me it leads my attention to the figs and I think it all works well. A very elegant image. Regards, Michael

The knife at the same angle as the base might reduce its focal prominence just a bit. The figs are beautiful, rich in color and texture with a lovely arrangement. -Michael

Thanks Shu :)
I hope to get some more shots akin to this soon. I'm thinking of a conceptual shot that get its message across without the title. It's not as easy as I thought it would be.

i'd be proud of the whole thing, tech! i think the knife is a nice touch (ouch) and really makes the composition very appealing when shot at this angle. after all, the fruit is cut isn't it??? once again, i think the knife adds a nice "twist" (ouch) to the shot! shu

I appreciate the comments. Thanks so much! :)
Sharon, I can see what you mean about the knife being a focal point.
Everyone, please be as blunt and open as you'd like. I can take it ;)
It's been a while since I shot something like this in a while. I'd like to know where I can improve. I'm playing around with the idea of only using natural light. As this shot was. Very little PP was needed, which I was also proud of.

What lovely figs! For some reason I find the position of the knife in the composition a bit disturbing, I want to look at the figs but my eye is consistently drawn away from them and out of the shot by the knife. Maybe it is just me. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful still life. ~Sharon
