4th Place "Jarred" by Kelly Bellis

Ellsworth, Maine

I met Jarred shooting a high school baseball game in which his son, middle son of three, was playing short stop. I had initially gone up to him asking if he had seen Hugh Bowden, the sports photographer for our weekly newspaper. Later, after having found Hugh on another ball diamond, I returned and in this shot (above) Jarred had just caught me looking over his shoulder. I reiterated the invite to check out the CIC ... and maybe, hopefully, he'll stop by.

Mary Anne, Michael and Nico,

Thank you very much for commenting.

Mary Anne, I may have unintentionally misspelled his name - yikes! - I hope not.

I liked that you've done here, Kelly. Just enough of the 'tog to make him part of the image, enough of the camera, and then also the on-screen image of what he was actually shooting. Cool!

Good shot, Kelly, and I'm glad you included the explanation. Otherwise, I would have thought that the title referred to something being bumped, with the resultant jarring causing the unusual composition!

Thank you Charlie for commenting ... and thanks too to you Sharon. It's slightly ironic that you mention this aspect of the strap. Immediately after this shot (and my blown covert cover), I walked up to Jarred and moved the strap down so as to not interfere with the next shot... which I never took - LOL! We ended up talking more about his kids, photography and his interest in learning Photoshop.

I love your composition here, Kelly. With the leading line of the strap it works very well indeed. Good work! ~Sharon

The eye of the viewer tends to be drawn to that which is in better focus. The camera, and its captured image, are in better focus than the photographer. So I am drawn to the purpose for his being there, more so than being drawn to him. I think that works very well.
