3rd Place: "Candid pose" by Techo

NYC

When I saw this scene I knew I had to capture it. A girl photographing her Mom. A few shots later I see the Mom's gaze look at me through my viewfinder. I ask if it was alright me taking photos of her. I feared the worst and that she'd also ask me to delete the shots. But actually wanted me to take more photos of her and explained it was her daughter's birthday that day, so the pretty dress her daughter was wearing. She was very friendly. I showed her what I had taken and she asked I email her the shots. Which I did. Only had time to take just two more shots in more of formal portait pose and then catchup with my friends.

Techo -
This has a wonderful feel with very interesting processing - different from what I have seen you do. I hope the family enjoyed them and that they responded positvely to your efforts.
Well done,

look like a BW HDR shot. Well done.

The darkroom work here is fantastic. I like the high contrast as well as the glowing skin tones. On a composition note, I like how the diagonal lines highlight the mom. The pole on the left vertical third is a bit distracting for my taste though. Overall, good shot! The narrative shows through, even without the added story.

Nice work and good story should give courage for interacting with the subject.. not that I'm any good at that. Some day I would like to hear more about your processing - a little different for you. - tv

Techo, I think this is one of the finest pieces of B&W processing I have seen here in the challenges, and a fabulous composition too. Totally stunning. -Najinsky

Thanks for the all the kind and friendly comments :)
I hope she liked them. I haven't heard back from her yet. I did send her this one as well. I sent a resized and higher res shot. I'm looking back at the pics, it started out as the mom taking photos of the daughter, then they switched. There was what seemed like a lost tourist that just was slow to move out of the frame, and I waited for him to get out. A mere 5seconds seems like an eternity and then hope you can still capture what was there when you first saw it. Lost a few shots but just ended up taking a few succesive ones, layering two shots and erasing him out of the background.

This may have been a lucky find, Techo, but it's your processing that makes it special. I this version was among the images you sent her.

Nice one-point perspective Techo and I appreciate the height of the viewer being below the eye line of the child.

Out of this world processing to add to a superb image. Compliments!
