Fords manufactured in Britain differed from those made in the USA. Designed in Dearborn, built in Dagenham, the 8hp Model Y was created for the British market.
Introduced in 1932, the Model Y was the first full 4-seater saloon car to be sold for a mere £100. It was developed in just 5 months, when Ford desperately needed
a small car to compete with Austin and Morris. The engine was bigger that the rivals’, and the car revived Ford’s flagging sales. It was available with 2 or 4 doors;
the basic models were called Popular in 1935, and economy Fords have retained this name since then.
This was the first car I remember my father owning, in the early 1950s, and he was ever so proud of it!
(Its registration was EPA 30, not a lot different from this one, curiously.)
