Cologne Altstadt – part of the Old Town. The Rhine Promenade, with what purport to be some of Cologne’s oldest houses.
Most of Cologne city centre was destroyed during World War II, however, and what you see today has been rebuilt after the war,
trying to emulate their historical characteristics. This area, close to the banks of the Rhine, has become a tourist quarter
with a few traditional old inns and many more tacky fast food places catering for mass tourism.
