Entrance Island Lighthouse

Construction began in 1875, but the first contractor absconded from Nanaimo with all the funds, after
the work was only two-thirds complete. Then the second contractor, hired to complete the work,
did the same thing two months later. The lighthouse was finally completed in 1876, but only after a
number of lives had been lost in the process.
