The Lubyanka Building, more commonly known as the headquarters of the KGB (Committee for State Security).
Originally built in 1898 as the headquarters of the All-Russia Insurance Company, it was seized after
the Bolshevik Revolution for the headquarters of the secret police. It was known as the tallest
building in Moscow, since Siberia could be seen from its basement. It now houses the Russian Border
Guard Service and part of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, in addition to a
museum of the KGB.
