The Bolshoi Theatre (meaning Large or Great Theatre), home to the famous Bolshoi Ballet.
The company was originally founded in 1776, but the present building dates from 1824, and has
undergone numerous restorations, the most recent of which was completed in October 2011.
The iconic façade features on the 100 rouble banknote.
