Talyllyn Narrow-Gauge Railway

Talyllyn Railway – narrow-gauge railway running from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol. The line opened in 1866
to carry slate from the quarries inland to the sea for transportation elsewhere. This is one of a
number of narrow-gauge railways in Wales built in the 19th century to carry slate, coal, etc., from
inland sites to ports on the coast. Many have been preserved and are now tourist attractions.
