St Davids – the smallest and oldest cathedral settlement in Britain.
(Note: there is no apostrophe in the name!)
The religious order was founded by St David in the 6th century, the cathedral was completed in 1176.
Unusually, it is situated in a deep hollow, below street level, so that not even its square tower
can be seen above the rooftops of the town.
