Originally named “Wurm”, meaning “dragon”, by Viking invaders, the island is joined to the mainland
by a rocky causeway exposed for two and a half hours before and after low tide. It is a breeding
ground for birds such as herring gulls, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and occasionally puffins.
