Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle,
to provide a refuge for nuns fleeing Belgium in the First World War.
The original castle was built in 1868 as a private home, and now houses a girls’ secondary
boarding school.
