The Patio de la Acequia is part of Generalife, the country estate of the Nasrid kings,
where they could escape the intrigues of the palace and enjoy tranquility high above
the city. The name Generalife has been interpreted as meaning "the garden of lofty
paradise". The gardens date from the 13th century and have been altered several times.
