11 Another bird story

Melbourne, Australia

I admire the fine needle work in this bird. But...

It is estimated that bout 40 million young women in China have left their home province in search of work,
ending up in the factories along the Pearl river in Guangzhou, Dongguan or Shenzhen,
producing all the Christmas decoration, which we can buy cheaply.
Many young women give all their money they earn to their parents in their home village,
they use the money to buy livestock, home additions, a plough or tractor or a colour television.

such intricate craftsmanship. I love this. The story is a modern day attrocity. We all feed the "beast".

I too admire the needle work and yes, the story is true - and not good to hear Mieke. Some girls never go home too, and some parents never receive the money either. It is sad

A beautiful ornament, but a sad background to its beauty. Yes, I've heard about this, and it is quite sobering.

A very pretty dove. Sad to hear about the girls that have to slave to make these items. They have done a good job. Wish they would pay them more.
