8 Sambal

Melbourne, Australia

My home-grown harvest of chilli peppers.
Some years ago I wanted to make sambal bajak, an Indonesian chilli condiment.
Therefore I had to cut very small a lot of chilli peppers.
Later on that day my fingers felt like being on fire.
I was unable to sleep because of that and had to put my fingers in cold water.
For more then 3 days I had to deal with this burning feeling.
I never made homemade sambal again.

I remember when I saw and tasted these for the first time - I experienced a fire in my throat and unfortunately I rubbed my eye, it was awful! Not a good memory for me either.

Yes, protection for your hands and eyes will help. Love your chili peppers....good to eat!

Latex gloves are a blessing...imagine if you had rubbed your eye...these should come with a hazard warning :))
Nice looking chilli though!!

Ouch! Once bitten twice shy!

An important lesson. I suppose you would need thick rubber gloves and safety glasses to prepare sambal. Pretty peppers here!!

I know only too well just how hot these little babies are! (Because we grown them in our garden). And yes, they have stung my eyes too! Ouch!

Moet je de volgende keer plastic handschoenen aandoen als je sambal maakt.

Great image, wonderful story. I like hot things but if it burns your fingers I'm not sure I would eat it.
