dying lizard.jpg

Alright all you herptologists out there, I need help here. I saw this lizard get bitten by what appeared to be a large rattlesnake. This was in the Lake Mead Recreation area just east of Las Vegas. You can see the fang bits on both sides of the neck, one set each from the top and bottom jaws. This happened about 15 minutes before this shot was taken. As you can see, the wound is already starting to necrotize (break down). Can anyone tell me what kind of snake venom would cause this?
