Hornitos is a well-preserved Ghost Town in Mariposa County, CA. There are still about 65 residents living in the area. It was founded in 1848 by settlers evicted from nearby minig town of Quartzburg.
The settlers were of the less desirable type so Hornitos became known as a rough community. Streets were lined with fandango halls, bars, gambling dens and houses of ill repute. Some believe that ghosts of that era still inhabit the area.
