Our group is seated in front of the Lion Gate entrance to the citadel of Mycenae which is one of the most famous monuments in the history of art.
It is one of the few monumental sculptures to sruvive from Aegean era.
The two huge headless lion figures flanking a central column are carved in high relief, and are supported by a lintel resting on cyclopean masonry.
The gate dates from c. 1260 BC.
