IMG_4124 Verrochio - "David"- in the Bargello.jpg

Verrocchio's brozne David, made in 1465, is displayed in the same room in the Bargello as Donatello's David, (previous image).
Verrocchio's David was also a Medici commission, and one of several David's in Florence.

As opposed to Donatello's nude, Verrochio's David is clothed, and holds a dagger rather than a sword.
Verrocchi's figure, also in a relaxed contropossto figure with weight on the supporting leg,
seems more confident and proud, and somewhat less effeminate that Donatello's bronze nude.

Viewed from the front, the composition is open, and the silhouette is broken with the jutting elbow and sword pointing out.
The smooth surfaces of the bronze reflect light and make the parts of the figure flow together.
