These South doors to the Florence Baptistery were made by Andrea Pisano between ca. 1330-36.
The 28 quatrafoil bronze panels show scenes from the life of John the Baptist and the Theological and Cardinal Virtues
These doors were commissioned by the Calmala, the wool merchants' guild of Florence,
whose responsibility was care of the Baptistery.
The woman in the image gives scale to the monumental size of the bronze doors, with some of the guilding still in place.
