I liked the juxtaposition of the monumental shapes of the sculpture set against Matisse's painting from 1932.
Matisse worked in several different styles during his lifetime, and this painting is from his more "Rococo" period,
with very elaborate and decorative elements in the picture.
Matisse's compact, blocky stone sculpture echoes the shapes of the slender almost serpentine figure in the painting.
