This enormous canopy covering the restorations on the Temple of Apollo at Bassai, is one of the most amazing sites I've ever seen.
It was erected in 1987 and consists of a framework of cables and pylons, over which is stretched a synthetic
material providing a protective shell to shield the temple from the elements.
The canopy is large enough to accommodate scaffolding as well as large lifting equipment
used to arrange and replace the huge stones of the temple as it is being reconstructed and preserved.
