The church of Santa Maria del Fiore , also known as the "Duomo", is the Cathedral of Florence. The Cathedral of any Italian city is the seat of the Bishop.
Florence Cathedral was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to the design by Arnolfo di Cambio, and completed in 1436.
The dome,(seen in the next image) is arguably the most famous in the world. It was designed and built by Filippo Brunelleschi between 1420 and 1436.
The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome green and pink marble bordered by a white marble background .
