Francesco Borromini, one of the most famous architects of the 17th century Baroque in Rome, designed this marvelous spiral staircase in the Palazzo Barberini.
Borromini and Gianlorenzo Bernini were fierce rivals, and Bernini designed another stairway on the opposite side of the entry way.
