A woman studies the description on one of my favorite Matisse paintings.
The simplicity of the nude's three dimensional form contrasted with the busy, decorative two dimensional background makes for an interesting mix of color and form.
Matisse used a fabric background and oriental carpet to literally dissolve perspective in the picture, except for the model and the plant in the decorative pot.
