In one of the shops that I walked past in Muar, there was a glass cabinet filled with an odd collection of dusty old mugs, glasses and even a consumed bottle of whisky now filled with water. Old stickers that once covered the glass have been simply scraped off and the front glass panel is now cracked. It appears that these things have been left there in that state for quite some time. This image expresses much of the essence of what the town of Muar was like to me - old, quaint , somewhat neglected and forgotten. Before the North-South Expressway was built, people used to drive through Muar along the coastal roads. Now with the quicker highway, Muar, even with all its charm, is often by-passed.
