used my el-cheapola 18-55mm kit lens. learning to compensate for poor glass and performance (eg. no depth of field due to having to constantly shoot at low f settings and fuzzy performance all the way around) -- used flash, covered with tissue and tried to shoot with a smaller opening. i'm learning that it is possible to push the kit lens into 'almost macro' work! (posted larger version so you can see for yourself how the DOF worked out)
