Eyelash Palm Pitviper - Bothriechis schlegelii

La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica

On our last afternoon hiking La Selva, we came upon a small group of students silently pointing at a palm branch leaning over the path at eye level. This snake couldn't have picked a more conspicuous place to sleep, but supposedly when they are curled up in a cluster of yellow palm fruits they are really hard to see. In any case, it was a great finale to an awesome trip.
