When the Japanese invaded Malaya in 1941, they landed first at Kota Bharu. The War Museum, housed in a 1920s building, has exhibits related to World War II, including one of the bicycles Japanese troops rode when they moved south through Malaya. They didn't all ride bikes; some used the Jungle Railway - an intriguing thought.
