DIRECTION: This way!

Sam Houston was one of the most controversial and colorful figures in Texas History.
This statue with the dramatic pointing arm and hand is in Herman Park in downtown Houston.
I believe that it was intended to refer to April 1836 when he led the Texas army
to victory in the Battle of San Jacinto.
