Achromatic and everything but shirty: David Gedge

He is black and white, he is wearing a shirt... when editing my huge backlog of images, I thought: Hey! Why not submit this for the Photo a Day, and it is appropriate for both themse going in August!

Welcome to the fan club of tall, dark, handsome and talented.

The Wedding Present at Indietracks, 26. July 2008, Midlands Railway, Derbyshire

As it was getting darker, I set the camera to 1600ISO and crossed my fingers... hence the noise in this shot. I liked the expression on David Gedge's face and converted to B&W and notched up contrast a bit.

Please do not steal my photos! This one is low-res and watermarked - if you would like a high-res copy for non-commerical purposes, email me at superlekker at hotmail dot co dot uk

Clever thinking there! An excellent image to cover both challenges.

Superb shot, reminds me of the young Marlon Brando!

Very nice, moody portrait...love the concentration on his face!

PS: he has been writing songs and playing the guitar for well over 20 years, btw.

Oi Phillip! Don't you insult David Gedge, Genius, the finest man ever to come out of Leeds!
Phillip Normanton03-Aug-2008 21:04
He's concentrating very hard on playing that guitar... I'm sure he'll get the hang of it soon ;-))

It's a good all-rounder shot...suitable for all challenges.
Mairéad03-Aug-2008 20:43
Yes, it's a great 'live on stage' shot - I like it.

Thanks chums!
Julie, that Deirdre had great taste - the Wedding Present are brilliant, they are currently touring the US and they have a fab new album out.

Well I must admit I do not have the time to go out and shoot every day, so we're not on a photo every day, strictly speaking :)
Laryl03-Aug-2008 19:47
at least you admit you didn't take it in August :) fun shot for both
Johnny Rasmussen03-Aug-2008 17:40
Very good capture. The noise just adds to the great mood presented.

lovely portrait
totally engrossed in what he is doing

Awesome shot! I hadn't thought of this band in years. Deirdre O'Donoghue (may she RIP) used to play them on her show "SNAP" on KCRW in So. Calif. I will have to give 'em a listen again.
