Hibernating LadyBugs

Wet and cloud day today, so here is another pic from yesterdays hike at Mitteldorf Preserve.

Deep in the Williams Creek canyon, we found large colonies of lady beetles on branches of trees
preparing to hibernate for the winter.

Gotta vote too Bryan--this is absolutely remarkable.
I thought they all came to die in my attic.

They gather because of their pheromones but I've never seen them packed in like this. Great find and excellent photo.

A convention of ladybugs. I like the red against the green leaves.

Boy, there sure are a bunch of them. They look like berries. I hope they go indoors.

Bryan, this is a terrific photo - I've seen many clusters and ladybugs (I've got a pic of my own in a new book), and this is one of the best I've seen.

Oh, what a find! How interesting, I always thought they must die off for the winter.
It's made for a lovely colourful image.
