Minute Man III Test Launch

Saw and photographed this test launch from Vandenburg AFB, 200 miles south of the bayarea.
It was headed near the Kwajalein Atoll in the South Pacific.

Shot from Loma Prieta Ridge with the fogged in Monterey Bay in the foreground.

Taken at 1:01 in the morning, right on time.

This is one incredible photo. Simply look at all the subjects... mountains, horizon, sky, stars, orbit bound objects, etc. Nice.

Wow, this is fantastic! Love the silhouetted horizon and the transition of colors from the horizon up into the starry sky. And also really like the point at which the launch streak vanishes into the horizon and how it seems that point in the horizon seems to glow a bit more.
