September 21, 2004

After work I went down to the Mall to catch some of the festivities in honor of Jeanne's birthday...oh no, the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian. Quite the papparazzi party!! DSLRs and big lenses all over the place. I don't remember the name of this girl's tribe. Next time I'll bring a pen. Lots of dancing at this event which isn't listed in the program on the website. I had to crop this, someone's headdress got in the way of the lower half. I'll post more later this week.

And Happy Birthday Jeanne!

You've stopped the action at the right moment. Pretty good for 1000iso and lens wide open. Is that a hire or have you bought it Mark? I've only just noticed via the exif info AND a little bird tells me you're buying a Sigma lens?? ONLY complaint I have of my Sigmas is the lens base caps will NOT fit the my Nikon lens and are at best a pain to fit in the field! I'll have to order some genuine Nikon caps as it's a PITA shuffling caps about? I look forward to hearing what you think of your new lens ~~ John

I love the swirl of the shawl. You caught such an intense expression on the girl's face.

Great shot, Mark. I hear the museum is to be open all night (although Metro closes at 1 or 2 a.m.).

She's a shawl dancer; it's a version of the men's fancy dance. The first time I saw a woman/girl dance like this I thought it was scandalous!! Women/girls never did this when I was younger. Good action photo; I like how she looks into your lens.
