What a mixed up year...
I still have potted Amaryllis blooming in June!!!
My "old" amaryllis - from previously years - usually bloom on their own in May. I don't do anything to force them to rebloom. So, the ones that are going to bloom in a given year merely follow their natural cycle; which would be the same as if they were growing outside in nature. From what I've read, blooming in March, April, and May is normal for outdoors in warm climates for plants planted in the ground & left to bloom according to their natural cycle. However, June is late and unusual for even those. I've only had a single, potted Amaryllis bloom into early June just one time before.
This pretty pink amaryllis has just started to bloom. Even with the outside temperature hitting 90 degrees (which will speed up the blooms), it should still have flowers a week or more from now. How odd. I have another red amaryllis (from a previous year) also in bloom right now, too. Nature no longer seems to know what she is doing.
However, I was blessed this year with about 70% of my old Amaryllis blooming in May. So, I'm not complaining about later blooming Amaryllis. Lots and lots of flowers.
Meanwhile, some of my summer flower seedlings (which were a good size by now in previous years) are still too tiny to transplant. We had very late freezes this Spring, which slowed everything down. Hopefully, those summer flowers will eventually start to grow by the Astronomical Start to Summer later in the month. But for now, I still have Amaryllis on this first day of Meteorologist Summer.
