Petunias in Winter 12-11-22

"Spellbound White Blush"

Uncommonly Large Petunia
A "spellbinding" fiesta of magnificent giant 4–6" flowers with white petals, which get a blush of pink on the edges as temperatures increase. Astonishing selection delights with a flurry of whirling dense blooms with dark centers that look hand-painted, and frilly edges.

This plant has treated me to beautiful flowers since early May 2022. At the end of September, her flowering had slowed down a bit like some of my other petunias: https://pbase.com/britestar/image/173009231 So, I pruned her back. I then brought her - along with Bees Knees (in the link) and others - into our Solar Room. By mid-October, all of my petunias then started to again bloom like crazy and are still going strong 2 months later.

We are now in the coldest time of the year. Next week, when the outside daytime temperature gets (and stays) in the single digits Fahrenheit (with cloudy skies), my growing Winter petunias could all be over. I hope not. However, our Solar Room is unheated and needs sun (when tempts get that low) to maintain warm weather plants. There will be no sun for over a week. Thus, only time now will tell the fate of my Tropicals and wintering-over annuals... Cold in the past has been a big problem.

In the meantime, I'm still enjoying over a dozen pots of lushly blooming, Pre-Christmas petunias. Spellbound White Blush sits next to Bees Knees. With their pastel flowers intertwining, they currently feel like Springtime and more like Easter than Christmas.
