1912 Sears, Roebuck and Company Warehouse Building

North Kansas City, Missouri

Historic warehouse building. It was built in 1912 as a merchandise warehouse for Sears. The building features Late Gothic Revival and Chicago school style design elements. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

********************************************

Sears didn't occupy this plant for long.
Most of the building was used during World War I as soldiers' barracks and military equipment storage.

Sears moved out of the building in 1925 when the company built a new plant across town.
Other smaller businesses continued to occupy the building over the years until 1999,
when it was renovated and reopened as loft apartments.

I'm glad it has survived. Apartments was the obvious way to go.

I was thinking "I bet they've made this into high-end condos" and sure enough. What a great, sturdy and attractive looking building. Glad it has been preserved. V

What an interesting building and I am so relieved it is still in use and not demolished! Brings back memories of the Sears Roebuck catalogue too! V

Nice to see it still in use, rather than in decay like so many others. Well photographed.
