Of a new hibiscus starter plant that I bought in early May.
"Giant hibiscus 'Jupiter' blooms with huge 8-10" single flowers in blended rings of yellow, tangerine orange, candy pink and a bright red eye. 'Jupiter' is a great bloomer and comes from two parents that are among our best bloomers - the giant mother 'Radiant' and the tried and true father 'Simple Pleasures.' The bush is upright, beautiful and medium sized. Released from HVH in 2014. Hybridizer: C. Black"

US COVID Monday News
“Speakers at Monday’s Democratic National Convention slammed President Trump’s response to the coronavirus crisis, with some of the most searing remarks coming from Kristin Urquiza, a woman from Arizona whose father is among the 167,000 fatalities. ‘His only preexisting condition was trusting Donald Trump, and for that he paid with his life,’ Urquiza said.” The Washington Post
“Mr Trump is always blaming & putting down someone else … Plus everything is always all about ‘him’. … Trump quote: 'did you see what's going on in New Zealand? 'They beat it, they beat it. It was like front page, they beat it, because they wanted to show me something,' he added. 'The problem is, big surge in New Zealand ... it's terrible.' Truth is: New Zealand reported nine new cases on Monday. The US reported tens of thousands. Unfortunately, the fact that the virus was able to return in countries that had largely stamped it out is deeply concerning, suggesting that we may not be able to fully relax restrictions for months or even years to come.” CNN
“Poll: Less than half of Americans say they'll get a coronavirus vaccine. A majority of Democrats say they would get a government-approved vaccine, compared to just 36 percent of Republicans, according to the NBC News|SurveyMonkey. The new data also show that the more formal education people have, the more likely they are to get a vaccine.” NBC News
“TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas on Monday reported its biggest seven-day increase in novel coronavirus cases since the pandemic began as the total number exceeded 35,000. Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly issued a statewide mask mandate on July 2, but state law allows counties to opt out, and most of the state’s 105 counties have.” Fox News

Thanks to a large political divide of attitudes (causing people to refuse to work together to defeat COVID), our freedom (with a return to a normal life) seems to be farther out of reach than I thought. The next Presidential election may give us some hope. Or it may take away all hope.

Meanwhile still another of my new hibiscuses has bloomed. So, it was a good day. I ordered the seedling sight unseen in the Spring and am not at all disappointed now that I finally see the pretty bloom. For more about the new hibiscuses’ story, https://pbase.com/britestar/image/170839544
