Labor Day Fireworks 2015

Hand held, night photo from a 6 pound DSLR camera/lens combo.
I had nothing to brace the camera on. So everything really was "hand held".
------------------------------------------------------
My husband suddenly announced tonight that he could see fireworks out our backdoor. Not prepared for the surprise fireworks, I jumped up and grabbed the first camera I could find. Earlier at dusk, I had been shooting some deer @ ISO 5000. So the 7DII had the 100-400mm II attached. However, all my camera settings were totally wrong for fireworks.

With almost no real hopes of capturing anything handheld with a reasonably "heavy" tele photo lens in the pitch black night, I nevertheless decided that it was worth at least trying. So I fumbled with my settings and went with a "gut feeling" about what might work. Surprisingly, things were successful. Out of 15 shots, I got a full dozen reasonable photos. This photo is merely the first of the series.

A tripod and Bulb setting would undoubtedly have been better for shooting fireworks.
Nevertheless, I still do not find tonight's photos at all disappointing for what they were: "Memory Shots."

I can't speak for anyone else. However, this view from my back door; followed by fireworks being photographed from my deck is "not the ordinary" for me.

Beautiful shot. Fireworks are great with or without a tripod.
