Beauty attracts attention. Great beauty attracts great attention.

This gallery was inspired by the exhibition "At Mono Lake"...an amazing collection of images
taken over a period of almost a century at this location, and presented in a book which still
inspires me after almost 20 years. The original photographs from this exhibition are currently
located at the Mono Lake Visitor's Center.

Photographers and visitors should be aware, however, of how crowded the tufa fields can be on
most any day. It is a sobering experience. The images of this gallery were taken during two
evenings - but I shared the shore with more than 100 fellow souls on each occasion. While
I enjoyed conversations and the company of several great photographers while I was shooting,
I must say that I miss the days when I could walk this lake alone and feel the solitude that
this lake richly engenders. We must be careful with this fragile wilderness.

One of the goals of this gallery was to illustrate the wonderful variety of feelings, colors, and
textures that Mono Lake covers in a typical day, with a touch of the desolate, solemn aura that
this lake brings, by nature, to it's visitors. It has always been, and still is, amazing to me.
