8:21 AM: Bone, Coyote Buttes

My favorite image of the day is this image of a bone washed from the dead cow in the previous photo. I originally composed the photograph with the entire bone in the frame, but was much more satisfied with a closer composition, emphasizing the shadow as the primary focus point, and adding dynamic tension with having the bone dropping out of the image to the right. My tendency as an artist is to 'over compose' my images; that is, having all of the essential elements balanced in a simple composition (see the image of the dead cow skeleton for a perfect example!). This image is refreshing to me in that I've broken away from my typical compositional rut, and found a successful composition with the essential elements in a very different way.

I would have to agree - a very original composition. Consider b&w with warn toning?
